Day 1 of Niroosha and Matthew‘s celebrations was their Oshwal Centre Hindu Wedding. My friend and talented photographer Gemma Kelly joined us for the day. This meant that while I began in Kent with Niroosha for her initial preparations, Gemma could photograph Matthew getting ready with his family in Middlesex. We then all travelled to the extremely picturesque Oshwal Centre in Hertfordshire for final preparations and the ceremony itself.
I’ve photographed many Hindu weddings before but this was my first Sri Lankan version. The key difference was that following Niroosha’s arrival for the ceremony and some initial blessings, she was presented with a new outfit by Matthew’s family and she then left the ceremony hall to change into these new clothes. This meant Niroosha got to make two grand entrances to her wedding (and that doesn’t count the following weekend for the Catholic ceremony, but that’s a whole seperate blog post!).
As well as the spacious hall for the ceremony, the Oshwal Centre boasts some stunning grounds and an amazing Hindu temple which provided fabulous backdrops for Niroosha and Matthew’s portraits.
I’ll be blogging day 2 of Niroosha and Matthew’s wedding soon, so do check back again to see that. Day 2 was just as spectacular with a church ceremony in Mayfair followed by reception at The Berkeley in Knightsbridge.
