With such a lovely couple, amazing venue and a gorgeous summer’s day, it was clear from the start that Donna and Mathew’s Queens College wedding was going to be one of my highlights of the year. Situated in the centre of Oxford, Queens College, with its beautiful chapel and impressive hall makes a perfect location for a wedding. You’ll need to have a connection to the college to be allowed to get married here though. Donna and Mathew were given permission as Donna studied here as an undergraduate.
With groom and bridal preparations happening in rooms on opposite sides of the rear quad, it was very easy for me to record both. Donna did take special care to make sure Mathew didn’t spot her through the window though.
Donna and Mathew had a really relaxed schedule to their day. That gave them plenty of time to mingle with their guests both between the ceremony and wedding breakfast and also between the speeches and first dance. So as well as lots of opportunities for candid photos of the guests enjoying themselves, it also left plenty of time to take advantage of all the fabulous locations around the college grounds for the wedding portraits.
As the day is coming to an end I will look for a suitable image for the final page of the wedding album. Sometimes this is a night time portrait or it could be a photo of the venue all lit up in the evening. For this one I was able to combine both. With the front quad beautifully illuminated, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. So after quickly setting up a couple of off camera flashes, just as the sky was turned deep blue I grabbed Donna and Mathew for the photo at the very end of this post.
