It’s lovely to be recommended by a venue, but you know they really mean it when you’re asked to photograph the wedding of a member of the family. So I was super excited when Alicia asked me to photograph her wedding to Matthew at Poundon House.
On arriving for the big day I started with a wander around the grounds to get selection of venue photos. When I popped my head into the Poundon marquee it was immediately obvious that the family had gone all out with their preparations for this one. The amount of effort and level of detail that had gone into transforming the marquee for the day’s medieval theme was just incredible.
After recording Alicia’s preparations and a few family photos at the house, I made the short journey up the road to the church in Twyford for the wedding itself. Just as the ceremony ended and the guests began to emerge from the church it started to drizzle. So we postponed the planned group photos and proceeded with the confetti under umbrellas. Alicia and Matthew made it to the car just as the drizzle turned into a torrential downpour. The plan was for Alicia and Matthew to be driven to the far side of the estate and then make their final part of the journey to the house on a trailer pulled behind a tractor. There was a sort delay in the proceedings while we waited for the rain to stop, but it gave plenty of time for the guests to arrive at Poundon and start on the champagne.
Often found roaming the grounds, the Poundon Hound, aka Beau Beau, seemed keen to get himself in as many photos as he could during the afternoon. He even accompanied us for the portraits session and I think was only distracted from his photobombing while visiting his new best friend, the chef that was preparing the evening’s hog roast.
Thankfully the weather remained dry until after everyone had moved into the marquee. So after photographing the antics on the highly active dance floor, it seemed only right to embrace the rain and make the final photo of the day Alicia and Matthew in front of the house under an umbrella.
I hope you love the photos I’ve included here as much as I do, I certainly had a great time taking them!
