Poundon House Indian Muslim Wedding – Farnaz and Assan

I was really excited when Farnaz got in touch to talk about the photography for her Indian Muslim Wedding at Poundon House. I’ve photographed many ceremonies at Poundon House, lots of which have been Indian weddings, but never a muslim wedding before. Farnaz wanted a very Indian feel to the wedding. So the ceremony was to take place in a mandap. The plan was for it to be outdoors too, weather permitting.

The day of the wedding started very overcast and there was a shower on my journey over to Poundon too. Fortunately the rest of the day was forecast to be dry and the outdoor ceremony was to go ahead as planned. The mandap looked amazing, set up against the backdrop of the rolling hills and fields of the Oxfordshire countryside.

After photographing the details and set up for the day I joined Farnaz for her final preparations. The official events kicked off with Farnaz’s pre-wedding meeting with the Imam. Assan, his family and guests then made their grand arrival accompanied by a dhol drummer and went straight into the wedding ceremony. This began with Assan, but not Farnaz who was represented at this stage by her brother. Eventually it was time for Farnaz to join the ceremony for the signing of the contract and an exchange of garlands and wedding rings.

After some family group photos in the mandap, Farnaz, Assan and I took a stroll around the grounds for their portrait session. There are so many lovely backdrops for the portraits at Poundon! It was then the wedding breakfast and after lots of mingling with guests and more group photos in the marquee, Assan and Farnaz made their grand departure from what had been a really special day.
