Katy and Barnaby got married on the Saturday between Christmas and New Year. I started the day by meeting up with Katy for some preparation shots before moving on to join Barnaby and his groomsmen at the Catholic Church of Our Lady of Ransom in Eastbourne. After a lovely service it was a little drive to the stunning Buxted Park Hotel for the reception.
My style of documentary wedding photography combined with elegant portraiture means that I love to capture all of those special moments through the day as they happen and also to create some beautiful portraits too. I don’t like anything contrived or overly posed, but like my portraits to still look natural.
This was my favourite image from their wedding and it’s one of those creative portrait shots.
Whilst wandering around the venue I noticed the Christmas lights in this corridor and immediately pictured this image in my mind. So in a little break at the end of the wedding breakfast we whisked Katy and Barnaby over to the corridor. I showed Katy and Barnaby where I wanted them and just asked them to stand facing and holding each other. I added the magenta lighting in the background with one of my remote flashes fitted with a coloured gel and that was the image created.
I always want to do something a little bit different from most other wedding photographers, so if we have time in the schedule, I love to take images like this after the sun has gone down.
